DVD Burning Made Easy

Page 2. Ripping Movies From DVD

You'll need DVD Decrypter and another free program called DVD Shrink for this process.

Insert the DVD you want to rip in your DVD drive, and make sure you have around 8-10 gigabytes of free space (just to make sure, these files are humongous). Open DVD Decrypter, and everything else is fairly straightforward. Select your DVD drive from the pull down menu at the top, select your destination where it says "Please select a folder," and click the start icon. When it finishes, you will have an unencrypted version of the DVD on your hard drive.

That part was easy enough. Now you open up DVD Shrink, and use it to open your new DVD file. Remember that blank DVD's can only hold 4.7 gigs, so you need to shrink this bad boy if you want it to fit. DVD Shrink will make the options fairly simple, you select how much quality loss (you really can't tell the difference) and what, if any, you want to leave out. You can leave out audio, subtitles, extras, whatever you want. I suggest you cut out the extras you don't need, then lower the video quality until the size is just under 4.7 gigs. Then you simply export the video to an IMG file, and you're ready to burn.
