Movie Reviews: The Heartbreak Kid

WHAT THE HECK IS IT? This comedy remake directed by the Farrelly Brothers (There’s Something About Mary) tells the story of Eddie, a guy who proposes to a girl after a mere week of dating, fearing it may be his last chance at happiness. During their honeymoon, he gets to know his wife and finds she’s a nightmare, and happens upon Miranda, the girl who he realizes is his actual soul-mate.

SPECULATION: Sorry, but there’s no excuse for comedy remakes. Why couldn’t the Farrellys do something from scratch? It couldn’t have been worse than Stuck On You…Well maybe it could. Regardless, this film looks all sorts of typical and I bet even your 12 year old brother could predict exactly what happens, and how it ends. So there’s no need to see it. The trailer isn’t even funny; and in a day and age where the funniest parts of a comedy are always spoiled in the trailers, this isn’t a good sign. But if you do have to see this, at least you’ll get a chance to see Malin Akerman in action before she starts work as The Silk Spectre on the Watchmen film.
