TMNT

Review by The Ninja Master

A fun return to the old Ninja Turtles, with sharp animation and action.

THINGS THIS MOVIE CONTAINED: Monsters, mutant turtles, the foot clan, and Patrick Stewart as the voice of the bad guy

THINGS THIS MOVIE DID NOT CONTAIN:  The Predator's Grandfather, a moldy turkey sub, Al Capone. Untrue Fact: Shredder got his name when he worked as a cheese grater in a restaurant kitchen.

The Review: There's going to be two audiences for this; the kids of this generation, and the adults who grew up watching the cartoon (and live action movies.) I think they'll both enjoy it. The animation is fantastic, and the action scenes are extremely well done. It picks up after the last live action movie, so Shredder has gone bye bye and there's a new villain in town. The plot is kinda silly and not so great, which is the stories main weakness. Fortunately, it's still a fun trip down memory lane for most of us, and a fun action adventure for the kids.

Raphael is being emo as usual and annoying everyone, and Leonardo has been gone for a while training in some jungle. Although the plot has to do with monsters and big stone statues that fight (watch it yourself, I'm not going to bother explaining that), a lot of time is spent on the turtles' relationships with each other. There are funny scenes, but the sarcasm and wit of the original isn't quite there. This is due to the storyline being darker, which is of course Raphael's fault.

Anyway the message is about brotherhood, bla bla, who cares about that? The turtles move around like they always should have, darting back and forth like true Ninja Masters through the tops of buildings. This could never have been done with live action, and you'll understand when you see it. Some people may be skeptical about the decision to go back to animation, but they really couldn't bring this world to life the same way with real characters.

Your favorite hockey stick wielding vigilante is back, as well as his girlfriend April. He actually has some hilarious lines, like when he and Raph start chasing some monsters. "You do know I only have a wooden bat, don't you?" Splinter is of course back, and you can't help but love Splinter. The movie entertains as it should, but doesn't stand out as anything spectacular. Watch it for some good nostalgia and a fun time.

Complaints:  Raphael spends too much time being annoying in the beginning. Ninjas should always be awesome. Also, the monsters in the story look pretty damn cool, but they do almost nothing at all. The giant statue guys get all the screen time instead. What the heck? Let the monsters eat some people first next time.

On a side note: The Ninja Master actually trained Splinter for awhile, which explains the Rat's awesomeness (and perfect movie reviews, if you've ever heard Splinter give a movie review, you know what I'm talking about.)
