Review by The Ninja Master I'm a huge Jet Li fan, and I wanted to like this movie. Unfortunately, we don't always get what we want. THINGS THIS MOVIE CONTAINED: A kid getting shot, a guy being beheaded, Ninjas jumping out of bushes THINGS THIS MOVIE DID NOT CONTAIN: Humphrey Bogart, lots of action, Clifford the Big Red Dog. Untrue Fact: Jet Li once jump kicked a giraffe in the face just for fun. The Review: Jet Li and Jason Statham are both big action stars, and I was hoping for some crazy fight scenes. I love Jet Li, and he does some good stuff here, but surprisingly there is hardly ANY fighting at all. The few scenes it does contain are okay, but come on! With these two stars, the potential for amazingly choreographed fights boggles the mind. All that potential went to waste. Jet Li is the assassin that killed Statham's partner. Statham is the cop that wants revenge. Throw in the Yakuza and the Triads (the Japanese and the Chinese gangsters) and put them in the middle. Sounds like there should be some crazy stuff, right? Firstly, you expect some serious martial arts, but don't get your hopes up. Jet Li beats up maybe two guys with his Kung Fu, thats it. So what's left, gun fights? There are a few fun scenes, but in general prepare for a lot of talking and some boring dialogue. A sword fight or two make an appearance, but by then it is far too late for you to care. There are a plethora of scenes where Jet or Jason mostly stand by and watch, or get involved as the action is coming to an end. Why put big name action stars in the movie, and then leave them out of the fighting? What the heck? Okay, so we've established that I'm pissed about the lack of action in this "action" movie. What about the plot? It's okay, I guess. The problem is that a plot in this kind of movie is almost completely action driven, and as mentioned above the action is fairly weak. Jet Li's character is pretty cool and smooth, Jason's is pretty mean and badass, but what's the fun of that if they don't get to show it off? The plot might keep you guessing through the movie, but it's not really that intricate. It's sort of clever, but those who are attentive will probably figure everything out before they get half way through. There are a few cool scenes, especially when Jet is bashing guys in. But nowhere near what you usually get to see in this kind of movie. Much as they missed the opportunity to make an awesome film, you should miss the opportunity to see War. Don't watch it unless you are desperate for an action movie, and even then there are a lot better ones out there. Complaints: Jet Li should have jump kicked the shit out of everyone like usual. Jason Statham should have injected himself with that stuff from Crank and gone crazy. Finally, martial artist Zombies should have risen from the sewers to fight them both. On a side note: The Ninja Master tried to challenge the characters of this movie to a fight, but they spent an hour and a half talking about nothing. Bored, The Ninja Master took his aggression out on an army of Cyborg Samurai.
