The Bourne Ultimatum

Review by The Ninja Master

A sequel that lives up to its predecessors. I thoroughly enjoyed this action movie.

THINGS THIS MOVIE CONTAINED:  Matt Damon, a man getting beat up with a book, a ton of trashed vehicles

THINGS THIS MOVIE DID NOT CONTAIN:  Big Foot, killer post-it notes from outer space, The Tramp from Lady and the Tramp. Untrue Fact: This film ends with Matt Damon realizing he's actually a space alien, then eating the rest of the cast.

The Review:  This movie is the third (and final?) in the Bourne series. It follows Jason Bourne, a super skilled killing machine, trained by a secret part of the Government. In the first movie he didn't remember who he was, and thus began a quest to find out his past. Along the way, of course, he would be exacting revenge on the people that made him. In this film he finally finds out where he came from, and manages to recover the rest of his memory. Oh, and he kicks a whole lot of ass.

Certain secret sections of the Government want Bourne dead quite badly, and the quick and sometimes shaky camerawork brings the tension of the movie to you. The action is awesome, especially the hand to hand fights, which a couple times made me go "oh shit!" One fight in particular between Bourne and another assassin is seriously badass. There are a whole lot of cars getting thrown about as well, but it's the up close and personal fights that I personally enjoyed the most.

The Bourne series has long been considered great, so this one had a lot to live up to. I'm happy to say it delivered. The action is great, the scenes are tense, and the mystery that has plagued Bourne through three movies now reaches it's climax. A combination of tension and anxiety for Bourne's safety, coupled with the fun of watching him walk circles around everyone, make this movie a very satisfying experience.

The Bourne character is always a step ahead, but never enough steps ahead where you don't have to worry about him getting killed.

This movie might be a bit hard to follow if you haven't seen the others. Characters come out of nowhere and you are expected to know their background, and others are alluded to from previous films. You can certainly enjoy this movie without seeing the others, as it more than holds it's own. Still I'd recommend getting the full experience by watching them all. This movie does not let down, and cements the series place as a high calibur trilogy.

Complaints:  Bourne could have injected himself with monster DNA, grown 20 feet tall, and tore through town eating everyone that stood in his way. I guess he was still pretty cool though.

On a side note: In a deleted scene, The Ninja Master shows up, beats Bourne up with his pinky, then turns and says "oh sorry, didn't see you there." Bourne replies "wow, you are my idol. I can't wait to read your next movie review!"
